Our Cooking Classes are featured now for two years. Since inception we received a lot of positive feedback and suggestions; and even more questions. I will try to answer some of those in this post below.
Cooking Classes at Watson Lake Inn
Designed to give attendees a kitchen to learn, practice, and have fun in. Our classes are meant to entertain, amuse, and inspire you, giving you confidence no matter what you’re cooking up. Our classes cover a world of cuisines and trendy topics and seasonal topics. You can schedule your private, customized classes for many occasions. Be it birthday showers, family outings or company team-building.
We offer several distinctly different levels of culinary education:
The Basics – Time 1.5 – 2 hours
Attendees need no prior skills and knowledge required – we teach you the basics step by step. At the end of this trilogy, you will have a good handle on classic knife cuts including slicing, dicing, julienne, and chiffonade and much more.
- Knife skills & safety, vegetable cuts
Attendees will learn the safe and appropriate use of the different types of knifes, and how to care for and maintain those. We practice standard vegetable cuts and learn about their application in the preparation of various cooking techniques; including basic mise en place
- Pan frying and deep fat frying
You will prepare two dishes and learn how to panfry and deep fat fry, using the standard breading method as well as a batter.
- Sautéing
Attendees will this classic technique and prepare two dishes with appropriate sauces and garnishes.
Advanced Cooking methods & Techniques– Time 1.5 – 2 hours
Take your cooking skills up a notch in a small-group setting. These hands-on classes focus culinary fundamentals, also sharing tricks of the trade.
Attendees need participate in the basic series, unless they are comfortable handling knifes and have some cooking experience.

Private Custom Classes – Time 2 hours, pricing TBD
Further hone your cooking skills and knowledge in a small-group setting with Chef Gebauer, AAC, WCMC, GMC . Chef shares his global experience and knowledge in international food with the class attendants. These hands-on classes focus on culinary topics as you desire.

- Mexican Holiday meal

Iron Chef competition – Time and pricing TBD
A group exercise for 4-6 people and a great way for a team building experience with co-workers; girls or boys get together, bachelorette party or more… Think about Tapas – Each participant will prepare one dish under the guidance of the chef, then enjoy the culinary creations together as a group. Take pictures, brag about and share.
Specialty Class Cheese making – Time 1.5 – 2 hours
This two-part series is for moderately experienced home cooks and foodies. The class focus on cheese making basics. Chef Gebauer will take you on a different culinary journey preparing fresh cheeses and introduce you to various applications. Every class will end with a sampling of cheeses made in class with your fellow students.
Mozzarella and ricotta
- Learn how to make fresh mozzarella in 30 minutes, we also experience how to make ricotta and more, all with store bought pasteurized, hormone free milk.
- Experience and sample both savory & sweet menu applications.
Queso Blanco, mascarpone and quark.
- Learn how to make Queso Blanco, mascarpone and quark, all three made from store bought pasteurized, hormone free milk.
- Experience and sample both savory & sweet menu applications.
