History about Mother’s Day

In most countries, Mother’s Day is an observance derived from the holiday as it has evolved in the United States, promoted by companies who saw benefit in making it popular. As adopted by other countries and cultures, the holiday has different meanings, is associated with different events, and is celebrated on different dates.

Germany in the 1920s, had the lowest birthrate in Europe, the declining trend was continuing due to women’s participation in the labor market. Some groups in society believed that mothers should be honored and agreed on the promotion of the values of motherhood. In 1923, this resulted in the unanimous adoption of Muttertag, the Mother’s Day holiday as imported from America and Norway.

In Mexico, the government of Álvaro Obregón imported the Mother’s Day holiday from the US in 1922. The conservative government tried to use the holiday to promote a more conservative role for mothers in families.
